A
Diet Pep-Talk
Keep
in mind how the school
officials make you go to pep rallies - even if you
aren't a sport's star or a band winnie.
The cheerleaders
kick up their legs and cheer loudly while everyone
speaks notable words to the players. In my hey-day,
pep rallies were always a huge hype at the schools I
attended.
Although
the pep rallies were intended to get the guys psyched
up and game-faced, I doubt very seriously if the rallies
did anything other than get us out of sixth period class
- a big plus as far as I was concerned. And I
did enjoy our band hammering out those sometimes, off-keyed
tunes. They may not have sounded so great, but
the musicians sure looked spiffy in those shiny uniforms.
Yet, the
point of the pep rallies went a big deeper as they illustrated
the team's support. It was as if the student body
was saying, "We're behind you, team! Whether
you win, or whether you lose, you'll still be OUR team!"
Dieters
crave the same support - whether it's from their parents, friends or co-workers. Noticing
that they look a bit thinner each day gives a boost
to the determined spirit.
If you're
trying to drop those extra pounds and you don't have a pep squad encouraging you
on, be sure to pause and congratulate yourself for a
job well done.
So many
times we get lost in focusing on the negative points
of our lives - such as, "I'm so fat and unattractive"
rather than, "My oh my, I just drop-kicked five
pounds! Way to go!"
Go for the
Diet Touchdown but keep in mind that there will be good
days, and there will be bad days. The important
thing is to keep on the Diet Team until all those extra
pounds are gone.
